A: openCI is a software which allows you to run and manage a gaming clan website. It is written in PHP and uses mySQL as database backend. You will need webspace or an own server to install and run this tool.

Q: Is openCI free software?

A: No, openCI is no free software anymore. This project started 1999 as an GPL licensed project. Someday i decided to rebuild openCI from the scratch cause the free software project fell asleep. The only thing this new openCI has in common with the old version of openCI is its name. Thousands of working hours made me decide to sell this software. This way i can offer more quality a better support and more features.

Q: Where can i download old versions of the free openCI?

A: You can't download the old versions at our website anymore. They where released for free in the past but are lacking in quality and features. Nevertheless the license status of the old openCI versions stays as it is. They where released under GPL and this did not changed. An exception are all versions from openCI 0.8 beta and above. Thoose are not GPL anymore!

Q: What is smarty? Why do we use it as a template engine?

Although Smarty is known as a "Template Engine", it would be more accurately described as a "Template/Presentation Framework."
That is, it provides the programmer and template designer with a wealth of tools to automate tasks commonly dealt with at the presentation layer of an application.
I stress the word Framework because Smarty is not a simple tag-replacing template engine. Although it can be used for such a simple purpose, its focus is on quick and painless development and deployment of your application, while maintaining high-performance, scalability, security and future growth.
